Timeouts during upload are typically related to Web server performance or quality of the Internet connection provided to you by your ISP. Please inquire with them and see if you have any options to get better service.

You  may want to try a third party FTP upload utility. Some of these include a useful "keep connection alive" feature which helps with repairing the connection once it has been lost. We do not have a specific recommendation for such an FTP utility but you can search for them on the Web or at www.download.com. Some are available as a free download, for example FileZilla, a good open source utility. You may also want to see which one is recommended by your Web host to work best withy your Web server.

Another option is to divide a large gallery, which takes a long time to upload, into several smaller ones.
